Senior Product Manager - Pricing

San Diego, CA

What drives you? Maybe you want to make the world a better place. Maybe you want to advance your career and work with the brightest minds in freight technology. Maybe you want to tackle new, exciting challenges while disrupting an industry. If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place.

While we're talking about your role in disruption, let's talk about disrupting job search norms. For example, one study found that men applied to jobs for which they met 60% of the criteria, whereas women applied only when they met ALL of the criteria. Here at Flock Freight, we're interested in your inherent abilities, not just the skills you bring from your last role - if you think you have what it takes to succeed in the role but don't check every box, please still get in touch. We'd love to start a conversation with you.

Flock Freight is proud to sponsor H1-B transfers and sponsorship for OPT candidates for certain positions. Please ask your recruiter if your role qualifies!

Interviewing is a two-way street, so let’s get to know each other. Here’s a little about us:

  • We’re a unicorn. Following our recent Series D funding round, our valuation has surpassed $1 billion
  • We’re growing fast — like, speed-of-light fast. In the past year, we’ve tripled our workforce and added thousands of square feet in Encinitas and Chicago
  • We’ve got support. Our investors include SoftBank, Susquehanna, Eden Capital, Volvo Group Venture Capital, SignalFire, GLP Capital Partners, and GV (formerly Google Ventures)
  • Efficiency is in our DNA. Our mission is to reinvent North America’s $2 trillion freight industry by relentlessly eliminating waste and inefficiency
  • Algorithms drive our sustainable shared truckload solution. Behind our carbon neutral shared truckload service is world-class tech (and a lot of sweat)
  • We’re taking names. Find us on the CNBC Disruptor 50, SDCE 100, SDBJ Diversity & Social Responsibility, and Fast Company World Changing Ideas lists
  • We walk the walk. We make a positive impact in everything we do; our B Corporation certification is proof. We were the first B Corp in our industry
  • We offer a hybrid work environment, and we are intentional about doing it right. Knowing you have a life outside of work, we won’t ask you to do your job from the office five days a week

About the Role:

At Flock Freight, we’re introducing a new mode of shipping to the world. We’re dedicated to eliminating inefficiencies at every level and are the only certified B corporation in the US freight industry. Our Shared Truckload solution unlocks superior service while reducing carbon emissions by up to 40% per shipment.

Pricing and costing are fundamental in how we can sustainably and profitably disrupt the freight industry, so we’re looking for a passionate Senior Product Manager to lead the Pricing Team and step-level change our foundational pricing engine.

The Pricing PM will be expected to:

  • Build and optimize pricing and costing systems to support all of our modes of transport
  • Co-design algorithms and models to maximize business outcomes given real-time costs, preferences, and elasticities
  • Develop experimentation plans alongside Data teams to make statistically rigorous decisions and tradeoffs

This is a unique opportunity to grow your career with one of San Diego’s leading technology start-ups while making a positive difference in the world.

If this sounds like a fun challenge and impactful work, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Gain a deep understanding of the company’s business, the customer experience, and the products and services we offer
  • Identify product gaps and generate new ideas that improve customer experience, increase operating leverage, and drive growth
  • Interview existing customers (both internal and external) and collaborate with customer-facing teams to solicit feedback on products and services, understand and identify use cases, and organize this information
  • Work with internal business and operational teams to gain a deep understanding of workflows and use cases
  • Ideate, identify, and specify product enhancements and requirements that will enable efficiency gains through automation and self-service
  • Define, track, and drive improvement of key product and business metrics
  • Take business problems, use cases, feedback, and product strategy as input, develop project plans with detailed requirements, user stories, and prototypes/mockups to enable planning and estimation of level of effort with engineering teams
  • Scope and prioritize activities based on business impact and level of effort
  • Work effectively in a modern agile software development process alongside Engineering, Data Science, and Analytics teams
  • Adapt to changing near-term business needs and company priorities while maintaining a cohesive product vision and strategy
  • Be a product evangelist: create buy-in, build awareness and shared understanding of product initiatives, and communicate new/changed functionality effectively
  • Begin to manage a roadmap and projects for multiple products or product themes
  • Take part in the interviewing and consideration of potential new team members
  • Provide guidance and technical mentorship to new Flockers

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in a product management  role
  • Experience managing successful products

  • Strong technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development and technology
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experiencing using data and experimentation to guide a cross-functional team towards a long-term vision
  • Be detail-oriented and able to dive deep into complex technical concepts, but also abstract them to non-technical stakeholders
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done
  • Skilled at working effectively using agile best practices on cross functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • BS degree (in CS, Economics, Math, or a related technical field is a plus)

Flock Freight is a proud sponsor of H1-B visas.
